How To Market Your New Film

How To Market Your New FilmBy Nicholl McGuire
Whether you are a new screenwriter, producer and/or director, you may be looking for that one chance to make a difference inyour life and the lives of other people, but Hollywood has saidno to you.
That’s okay, because more and more companies are coming out tosupport new filmmakers and you may be looking for them whilethey are looking for you.
The average Joe isn’t interested in many of the movies thatcome out on the big screen like you assume. Instead, he is moreinterested in what is happening in his own neighborhood and hiswife is just as interested. Why is it your family movie hasn’tbeen shown at the local high school gymnasium, church or your Rrated movie at the neighborhood bar? What about working with theowner of the neighborhood video store to get it in his or herstore? Why don’t we see fliers promoting your movie? How comeyou haven’t bothered to employ your local college students tohelp you get the word out about your movie?
Some filmmakers have no professional affiliations and thatcauses many obstacles for them as well. How do filmmakers knowhow to successfully market their movies when they don’t botherto put into action what they observe others are doing?
Twelve marketing strategies filmmakers are presently using intheir marketing campaigns include:
1) Creating a website about their film.
Filmmakers provide a simple teaser that draws the viewer intothe film wanting more than they cut it, leaving you wanting formore. Every site has contact information which is easily foundand all links are fully functional.
2) Maintaining blogs about their film.
Everyday someone is posting something on the site related tothe synopsis of the film, photographs, the company orindividuals involved with the production, or some other relatedinformation.
3) Registering with social networking websites.
Whether they are adding friends, keeping the “about me” sectioncurrent or discussing related topics to the film in the chatrooms, they are keeping communication live about their film.
4) Sending press releases to Internet and local media outlets.
Every local media outlet that bothers to print a press releasehas received something about the film whether it is a short, aposter, or something else that promotes their new film.
5) Distributing fliers to local movie, book and music stores.
The information is professionally designed and easilyaccessible in the store. Sometimes it is located next to thosefree neighborhood newspapers.
6) Purchasing email lists.
The filmmaker has an idea of who his or her target market issuch as what gender, age group, background and general filminterest of the person who may be watching the film. With thisinformation he or she knows what kind of email list to buy.
7) Professional memberships related to the film industry.
He or she is networking with other people who may be able toassist him or her with the film. The bigger the circle the moreopportunities to meet the right person or group.
8) Getting listed in internet movie databases.
The average Joe should be able to get online and find yourmovie in someone’s database, if he or she can’t find yousomewhere, then you know you have a lot of work to do. Try this, type the name of your film in the search engine window, if itdoesn’t show up on the first page, this is a good indicationthat you haven’t been doing a good job marketing it. Findsomeone who can write an article about you, your company and thefilm. Then have an article distribution service distribute itto other article websites (this tactic is called articlemarketing.) Once you get this done, watch how easy it will be tolocate information about your film online when someone searchesfor you.
9) Hosting screening parties.
No more partying for the pure joy of it, filmmakers use everyopportunity to party as a way to get their film out there.Change the typical way you host parties.
10) Uploading movie stills to photography sites.
Look at what other filmmakers have done with this, just type inan independent film you really like and see what kind ofpresence they have on the photography site.
11) Uploading trailers to video sites.
Once again, see what your competitors have done with this, thengo to a site that offers books on the subject rather thanvisiting someone’s freebie site. You will want to get theinstructions on doing this right the first time. Wasted time ismoney lost, learn from professionals.
12) Offering freebies such as t-shirts and posters advertisingtheir film.
People love free stuff, so if you can give things away relatedto your movie, do it, in time you will get something in returnfor your efforts, fans!
All of these tactics take time to implement. Take a task eachday from this list and work on it until you have completed alltwelve. Once you have finished these duties, start looking forother ideas you can accomplish within a certain deadline youhave set for yourself. Without a deadline, you won’t getanything done. To your success!

Film Cameras

Film CamerasBy Cathy Peterson
Film cameras are simple cameras, which could be used by alleasily. People prefer to use film cameras over digital camerasbecause they are much simpler to use which could be easilyoperated by all. The debate, which is going on, is regarding theefficiency of film cameras over digital cameras and vice versa.Film cameras where the first of its kind which has been usedsince ages and has had a good reputation among all. They are theones, which are of great use for almost all. All people fromsmall children to aged ones are able to operate film camera verywell without the help of anyone from outside.
The significance of camera is regarding its image quality, which has four major factors such as picture resolution, presence of grain/noise in the cameras, color quality anddynamic range of the image. Considering the resolution, whichactually refers to the sharpness and visibility of the image, the film cameras are triumphant. These cameras have achieved theresolution ranking!
In relation to the noise or grain of the camera digital camerawins, as they are more sophisticated gadgets. Whereas whileconsidering the dynamic range, the film cameras are preferredover digital ones because deliver much more perfect image whilethe digital cameras gets disturbed due to contrasting light andsometimes there occurs white highlights on the photo obtained.Technology is advancing to rectify these problems related todigital camera, hoping to achieve better quality very soon.
In case of color quality digital cameras are able to provide asharper, clearer, colorful and brighter image when compared tothat of the film cameras. This is because of the advancingtechnologies that play a major role.
A major draw back of film cameras are that they are muchcostlier as films are needed for using them and they have to bewashed to get the photo in hand. On the other hand, digitalcameras need no films and they only have an initial investment,as they are costly. But while using them they do not cost much, thus becoming affordable for all. Nowadays film cameras are justdisappearing from the market, as they are use by theprofessionals alone. They have a better picture resolution thatmakes it still prevalent in the market.
Therefore it is to be noted that both digital cameras as wellas the film cameras have their own advantages as well asdisadvantages, which should be checked into before buying one.

Film Budgets - Insider Tips For Film Students

Film Budgets - Insider Tips For Film StudentsBy John Gaskin
This is my 20th year working in the film industry on over 40film productions. Throughout that time I have never met a newfilm school graduate who has a clue about handling the mostimportant aspect of ALL filmmaking - the MONEY! I had alwaysassumed (wrongly, it turns out) that film students just weren'tinterested in knowing about film budgets. However after a recentsurvey of film students at a reputable film college we learnedthat film students DO intuitively understand that knowing thelanguage of film budgeting is crucial to their careers in film.Surprisingly, over 80% were enthusiastic about learning moreabout film budgeting!
Here's what we discovered from that survey (completed in lateSeptember, 2005):
1. Over 80% of film students are not only interested inlearning more about budgeting for film productions, they areemphatic about it!
2. In all cases, film students expect to find information aboutfilm budgeting from the internet, or as recommended reading fromtheir professors.
3. We also learned that there are no references or booksavailable to film schools or film students on this very neededsubject.
Those working in the film business recognize how important itis to be familiar with film budgeting, if not technicallyproficient. The confidentiality of film budgets makes itextremely difficult, even for working filmmakers, to getfamiliar with film budgeting. (I have a true story in my bookabout a meeting that I had with Ron Howard in 1993 where hewanted to learn specifics about the budget for his film - inspite of having been in the film business for over 30 years asan actor and budding director).
Learning about film budgets while on-the-job comes at theexpense of hard-knocks, expensive film budgeting software andlate night self-training with a technical textbook (if you canfind one). In the 20 years that I've been working in the filmbusiness, I have NEVER shown a film budget to anyone but aselect few insiders - Producers, Production Managers, Studios,Bonding Companies, etc. So, exposure to actual film budgetsreally is an insider's privilege - which I am about to open thedoor to for my readers. (Keep in mind the figures shown aresamples only. The figures are real enough, but are not drawnfrom my actual past/present/future film productions.)
How can film students get familiar with film budgets while theyhave the time and opportunity? The only colleges with filmbudgeting in their syllabus (that I could find after hours ofinternet searching) was in a specialty course for ProductionManagers at the New York Film Academy, and through mentors atthe American Film Institute (where, I'm proud to say, parts ofmy book are being used by a mentor there, who has a long recordof producing films including a term as Vice President ofProduction at MGM).
The only solution that I see for film students, and for workingfilm crew, to get familiar with film budgeting is to providethem with the information myself. But, what kind of information, and at what level of detail?
The answer to that rhetorical question is - in as simple aformat as possible, yet still be effective. By effective, I meanthat any training in the area of film budgeting will actuallyhelp you impress producers for those few film jobs, get yourscript into production, find financing, be rehired for more filmcontracts, be more cost effective cinematographers, etc. Also, the basic concept of translating creative ideas into a budgetingprocess is new to most people, especially those educated in filmschools, so that concept should be presented first.
Film students don't need to become keen budget technicians. However, they DO need to get enough exposure to film budgets tounderstand the fundamentals, and to be able to communicate tofilm producers, film studios, bonding companies, banks, financiers, etc. in the same language as would be expected fromprofessional filmmakers.
All of the above is covered in my book, Walk The Talk. I havewritten a series of 7 free articles based on my book. They'rewritten for the complete novice, so be patient if you've alreadybeen exposed to film budgeting. You can sign-up, FREE, for 7weeks of articles at www.talkfilm.biz .
There is a seventh article that could have been added for thosewho haven't been exposed to the simple administrative procedureslike petty cash, purchase orders, check requisitions, etc.Knowing how to use these forms will put you WAY out in front ofthe pack of job-hungry film students looking for those few filmjobs. You'll need to buy my book at this link Walk The Talk toget that inside advantage. (I have kept the price affordable, specifically with students in mind.)
Here are the article titles:

Your Participation In Below-the-Line Budgeting 6. Your Report Card - Comparing The Budget to Actual Costs 7. Presentation of the Weekly Cost Report - It's As ImportantAs the Dailies
When you read my articles, print them out. Make your ownexamples. Reread them. Send me your questions if you get stuck. You'll find that you'll be way out in front of the pack!

While the Shimano Compre rods come with plenty of benefits, these also have disadvantages. One of these is theless-than-perfect sensitivity of the reel seat of the rods. Sadto say, there are better reel seats than this. There are fishvarieties that strike fast. Since the sensitivity of the ShimanoCompre series falls short, it does not amount to the other rodsin the industry.
